" THE POWER OF LIGHT (GREAT SAND DUNES NAT'L PARK)"

[February 2012] -  My love for the wonders in the natural world created by God compels me to travel extensively which in turn always broadens my horizon. Deep within me, I celebrate the meaning and essence of this gift of life by capturing images of the marvels created by God. My existence is therefore one of devotion, pursuant to retain faith for what I believe in, to see and feel that which brings joy and harmony to me and others.

Life has managed to exist almost everywhere, even in harsh places like deserts which may appear completely barren. Deserts are very harsh environments to live in. The lack of rain creates long periods of drought for the growth of plants and other organisms. The marvel of creation in our backyard, so to speak, located in the State of Colorado: near Alimosa, is the second largest San Dunes Desert in the world, after the Sahara Desert, Africa.

I made this image of the spell-binding scenic view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains which are located on the southern most sub range of the Rocky Mountains in the State Of Colorado. The early light and moving clouds above the geometrical slopes and patterns of the Sand Dunes provides a graceful vista. It contains several mountains over 14.000 feet of which the highest is 14.341 ft. (4.374 meters); the range is 242 miles long (389 Km.) north-south.

Great San Dunes National Park is open all year around and if you wish to explore this marvel of nature, bare in mind that the constant winds are shaping the size and patterns all the time. To climb to the peaks of the Sand Dunes be ready to cross the ice-cold waters of the River and be prepared to get wet.
